About the SCV

The citizen-soldier who fought for the Confederacy personified the best qualities of America. The preservation of liberty and freedom was the motivating factor in the South's decision to fight the second American Revolution. The tenacity with which Confederate soldiers fought underscored their belief in the rights guaranteed by the Constitution. These attributes are the underpinning of our democratic society and represent the foundation on which this nation was built. Organized at Richmond in 1896, the SCV continues to serve as a historical, patriotic, and non-political organization dedicated to insuring that a true history of the 1861-1865 period is preserved. Today, the Sons of Confederate Veterans is preserving the history and legacy of these heroes, so future generations can understand the motives that animated the Southern cause.

About Camp #7

The Jefferson Davis Camp #7 is the second oldest camp in the state of South Carolina, and was named after the Chief Executive of the Confederacy. It is headquarted in Easley, S.C. and primarily serves Pickens County. Membership is open to descendants of Confederate soldiers, either through direct line or kinship. Any male 12 years or older is eligible to join. Assistance is available, upon request, to establish a member's eligibility.

Activities of the camp include the presentation of living history, re-enactments, field trips, social gatherings, and informational programs. We provide speakers for local organizations of all types upon request. In the tradition of Jefferson Davis, known for his active and inquiring mind, the camp raises money to buy books for schools and libraries to put on educational programs for children and support local museums and heritage associations.

All SCV functions are open to the public.
They are family-oriented, and children are more than welcome.
Please come—there is much to be learned and exciting work for all!

Charge to the Sons of Confederate Veterans:

"To you, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we submit the vindication of the Cause for which we fought; to your strength will be given the defense of the Confederate soldier's good name, the guardianship of his history, the emulation of his virtues, the perpetuation of those principles he loved and which made him glorious and which you also cherish. Remember, it is your duty to see that the true history of the South is presented to future generations."

- Lt. General Stephen Dill Lee, Commander General
United Confederate Veterans, New Orleans, Louisiana, 1906
